The °ÄÃŲʿª½±ÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ Pad Project

The °ÄÃŲʿª½±ÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ Pad Project is a brand new group run by the °ÄÃŲʿª½±ÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ Remakery and °ÄÃŲʿª½±ÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ University Students’ Association Volunteering Service.

°ÄÃŲʿª½±ÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ Pad Project

The project isÌýrunning a series of free workshops where participants will make reusable sanitary pads.ÌýThe pads made during the workshop will be donated to The Homeless Period and Leith Food Bank to gift to women experiencing period poverty.

Some sanitary pads contain up to four plastic bags worth of plastic, and a lot of them end up in landfill or polluting our oceans, and take hundreds of years to degrade. Making reusable pads with the °ÄÃŲʿª½±ÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ Pad Project is a way to promote sustainability, while helping those in need.

As well as helping to fight period poverty, those taking part will learn basic sewing machine skills and get a pattern to take home to make more pads in their spare time if they wish.

What to bring

An old towel and pyjama material. Dark material is preferred. We will have some extra textiles if you aren’t able to bring them. All other sewing materials will be supplied.

The °ÄÃŲʿª½±ÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ Remakery

In support of our sustainability programmes, the University partners with the °ÄÃŲʿª½±ÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ Remakery, a re-use and repair store which relocated to Leith Walk last year.

The social enterprise teaches repair skills to the general public and campaigns for consumer goods to be built to last.ÌýThe store also sells second-hand goods, including refurbished computers and furniture, as well as books and other useful items.

The project is backed byÌýZero Waste ScotlandÌýandÌýbyÌýthe Scottish Government as part of it'sÌýCircular Economy strategy, ‘Making Things Last'.

°ÄÃŲʿª½±ÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ is a project partner and donates computersÌýbetween five and eight years old which are then sold to the community at a low cost, making them highly affordable.
